Growth Mindset

What this means to us:

For the SNH Lab, having a growth mindset means recognizing that mistakes, challenges, and rejections are opportunities for learning, not reflections of our underlying ability, worth, or belongingness. We recognize these experiences are common in academia and seek to support each other through them while growing from them.

How we enact it:

  • We openly discuss challenges and rejections at our lab meetings and strategies for coping with and learning from them.

  • We strive to be patient with ourselves and each other when missteps inevitably occur.

  • We focus on process and not outcome. Thus, we celebrate intermediate steps on the journey (e.g., paper and grant submissions) as well as ultimate achievements (e.g., papers getting published, grants getting funded).
